Nevada is a state in the Western, Mountain West, and Southwestern regions of the United States of America. The word “Nevada” means “snow covered” in Spanish. The name comes after the Sierra Nevada (“snow-covered mountain range”), a mountain range in the Western United States.

It is the driest state in the United States, with an average annual rainfall of only about 7 inches (18 cm), much of Nevada is uninhabited, sagebrush-covered desert.

Lake Tahoe, Reno, and Las Vegas are major resorts. Recreation areas include Pyramid Lake, Lake Tahoe, and Lake Mead and Lake Mohave, both in Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Other attractions are Hoover Dam, Virginia City, and Great Basin National Park (includes Lehman Caves). Image: wikipedia
