Created by the Universidad de Puerto Rico en Arecibo (the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo) scientists, this amazing infographic shows the volumes of the oceans of the Solar System. The unit used is the volume of the liquid water on Earth, so the ocean volumes of the other planetary objects are given by the multiples of the volume of the oceans on our planet.

  • The mass of liquid water compared to the body’s mass: 14 percent

Mars’ past

  • The volume of liquid water as the Earth’s oceans: x0.04
  • The mass of liquid water compared to the body’s mass: 0.01 percent

Europa

  • The volume of liquid water as the Earth’s oceans: x2.4
  • The mass of liquid water compared to the body’s mass: 6.4 percent

Ganymede

  • The volume of liquid water as the Earth’s oceans: x6.2
  • The mass of liquid water compared to the body’s mass: 5.4 percent

Titan

  • The volume of liquid water as the Earth’s oceans: x11.4
  • The mass of liquid water compared to the body’s mass: 11 percent
