Roscosmos, the Russian Space Agency is planning to shoot the first movie in space in collaboration with Channel One Russia (the first television channel to broadcast in the Russian Federation) and Yellow, Black, and White Studio (one of the biggest independent studios based in Russia focusing on the production of movies and TV programs). The title of the movie will be “The Challenge”.
According to Roscosmos, the director of the movie will be Klim Shipenko, the director of the movies Salyut-7 (2017) and Kholop (2019).
Dmitry Rogozin, Konstantin Ernst, Sergey Titinkov, Eduard Iloyan, Denis Zhalinsky, Vitaly Shlyappo, and Alexei Trotsyuk will act as general producers of the large-scale film project.
The plot of the film will provide for a flight to the International Space Station, which is scheduled for autumn 2021 on the Russian Soyuz MS crewed transport spacecraft.
At the moment, the parties are discussing the details of the future film – the script, the technical capabilities of filming, and the cast, Roscosmos announces.
The main character of the film, who will fly to the ISS, and his backup will be determined by the results of open competition.
The first movie in space: “The Challenge”

Yellow, Black and White studio, Channel One, and the state corporation Roscosmos will create and produce a feature film in space for the first time in history. This will be a joint co-production under the working title “The Challenge”.
The project will be directed by Russia’s renowned director Klim Shipenko, who earlier directed Russia’s highest-ever grossing film ‘Son of a Rich’, and 2019’s box office hit ‘TEXT’.
