In February 2015, U.S. service members helped spark Okinawa Department of Defense Dependent Schools students’ interest in science, technology, engineering and math by helping them prepare for and participating in an island-wide robotics competition.

Caitlin Yasuki, a Kadena Elementary School student, watches to see if she successfully programmed her robot to navigate an obstacle course during an island-wide robotics competition on U.S. Marine Corps Camp Foster, Japan, Feb. 20, 2015. KES students practiced for several weeks before the competition, learning to use programming software and competing amongst themselves to see who would represent their school at the island-wide competition.
