Astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy published on his Twitter account an amazing video of the International Space Station (ISS) transiting the Moon, over the landing site of Apollo 11, the first moon landing mission. Such an incredible amount of human achievement is represented in just one short video!
On January 19, 2022, McCarthy wrote on Twitter that: “Stayed up till the wee hours of the morning last night to capture the ISS transiting the Apollo 11 landing site. The pinnacle of human engineering and the pinnacle of human exploration in one spot.”
McCarthy also published another version of the video above, this time encircling the Apollo 11 landing site on the Moon’s surface (encircled red, you may need to see it fullscreen to be able to notice it).
The videos above were slowed down. The ISS actually moves about 6x faster:
